Big backcountry loop on Buck Ridge south of Big Sky, linking the two Yellow Mule creek drainages — a Big Sky Biggie race feature.
Notes
- ~19 mi loop, ~3,000 ft gain. Climb First Yellow Mule (steeper) to Buck Ridge, jog west on Buck Ridge Rd, then descend Second Yellow Mule (#42) — a long, mostly-descending payoff.
- Start at the Ousel Falls trailhead in Big Sky; ~1 hr drive from Bozeman.
- Best mid-summer through fall once the high ridge is snow-free.
- Serious grizzly country — bear spray, ride in a group, make noise. Carry water; there's little on the ridge.
