502-acre state park north of Anaconda, tucked under grey limestone and multi-coloured cliffs that rise 1,200 ft off the canyon floor. Lost Creek Falls drops 50 ft at the end of a 0.1-mile walk — one of the highest reward-per-effort stops in the state.
Notes
- Campground: 21 sites plus 3 day-use sites, with vault toilets, fire rings, tables, and drinking water. First-come, first-served — no reservations. Camping is seasonal; the park itself is open year-round.
- Wildlife: mountain goats and bighorn sheep are regularly visible on the cliffs right from the campground — bring binoculars.
- Hiking: the falls trail is trivially short. For more, a forest-service road trail runs just over 3 mi, and the Lost Creek → Foster Creek trail goes just under 12 mi with steep, rocky sections.
- Getting there: 1.5 mi east of Anaconda on MT 1, 2 mi north on Secondary 273, then 6 mi west. ~2–2.5 hr from Bozeman, so an easy overnight or a stop on the way west.
- Park sits at ~6,400 ft. Free; no entrance fee for Montana-plated vehicles.
